Abstract

This book covers topics related to materials and nanomaterials and their use in caring for the environment. The objective of this book is to promote original research carried out by researchers and graduate students in Materials Science on current issues. Their investigations range from new routes of synthesis, modification and improvement of materials, as well as applications that contemplate the care of the environment. The first part of the book deals with materials produced with renewable sources (vegetable oils, sugar, starch, wood), with readily available natural binders that reduce production costs. The use of natural fibers and natural oils for improvement and protection against environmental corrosion is addressed. The second part of the book deals with topics on nanomaterials, novel synthesis techniques or procedures to control properties, performance and modification that allow greater versatility for sustainability.
