Abstract
Improving prospects for North American coal ports are reported, as the Gulf crisis underlines the danger of dependence on imported oil for power generation and as demand for U.S. coal for steel production continues to be buoyant. Coal terminal projects at Los Angeles, Vancouver (Canada) and on the U.S. East Coast are discussed. The largest East Coast coal port is Hampton Roads, Virginia. (D.W.T.)
