Intenção dos Alunos em Seguir Carreira na Área de Contabilidade sob a Perspectiva da Teoria do Comportamento Planejado

Abstract

Objetivo: Quais são as intenções dos alunos relacionadas a profissão e consequentemente a sua carreira ao fazer o curso de graduação em ciências contábeis? Face as diversas opções que o profissional da área tem no mercado, este estudo investiga os fatores que influenciam a intenção comportamental dos alunos de todas as fases de uma universidade federal do sul do país em seguir carreira na área contábil, sob sustentação da Teoria do Comportamento Planejado. Método: A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de questionário aplicado a 302 alunos. Para a análise dos dados utilizou-se estatística descritiva, análise fatorial e Equações Estruturais. Resultados: Os resultados obtidos, enfatizam que há relevância das opiniões de profissionais da área, amigos e namorado/esposo(a) para esta decisão. Infere-se também que os alunos não vêm as carreiras da profissão contábil com reconhecimento de status e prestígio; que não tem boa remuneração e que não há boas oportunidades disponíveis no mercado. Contribuição: Os resultados da pesquisa contribuem para esclarecimento de fatores que podem influenciar de modo significativo a intenção dos alunos em seguir carreira na área em que estudam, podendo também fornecer subsídios em relação aos aspectos que precisam ser melhorados para estimular o interesse dos alunos.Objective: What are the students' intentions related to the profession and, consequently, their career when taking the undergraduate course in Accounting? In view of the diverse options the professionals of the area have in the market, this study investigates the factors that influence the behavioral intention of the students in all phases at a federal university of the South of Brazil to follow a career in the accounting area, in the framework of the Theory of Planned Behavior. Method: Data collection was performed through a questionnaire applied to 302 students. For the analysis of the data, we used descriptive statistics, factorial analysis and Structural Equations. Results: The results obtained emphasize that the opinions of professionals in the area, friends and partners are relevant for this decision. It is also inferred that the students do not see the careers of the accounting profession accompanied by acknowledged status and prestige; that remunerations are not good; and that there are no good opportunities available in the market. Contribution: The research results contribute to clarify factors that can significantly influence the students' intention to pursue a career in the area they study in, and may also provide inputs on aspects that need to be improved to stimulate students' interest.
