Abstract

This essay examines piracy as a powerful means of circulating fi lms transnationally. Titanic's worldwide success, and in particular its underground popularity in Afghanistan, prompts consideration both of the impact of unlawful distribution on Hollywood cinema's global reception and of theoretical issues raised by discourses that invariably surround cases of media piracy. © 2010 by the University of Texas Press.
