Abstract

A 51 yr old man complained of right sided deafness, tinnitus, facial paresis, and unsteadiness. Xrays typical of cholesteatoma of the petrous apex were presented. The lesion was cleared out by petrous apicectomy. The operation is described in detail. The part of the facial nerve in the cholesteatoma could not be identified and was removed; the nerve was repaired by direct suture.
