Abstract
Preconcentration of Ni in water sample for metal furnace AAS determination was studied using activated carbon impregnated with 1,2-cyclohexanediondioxime (AC-DOx). AC-DOx was prepared as follows; 2.0 g of activated carbon and 1.0 g DOx are added to 200 cm3 of water. The mixture is stirred for 30 min and after standing for one night AC-DOx is filtered out and then dried in a desiccator. Sample solutions (100 cm3 to 1000 cm3) containing 0.05~0.5 µg Ni were completely collected in the presence of 5 cm3 of 5% potassium sodium tartate over the pH range of 6.0~9.0 by stirring with 50 mg AC-DOx for 15 min. Adsorption time was 15 min in a ultrasonication bath using 50 mg of AC-DOx, and desorption time of adsorded Ni was 15 min in the bath using 1 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid. The detection limit of Ni was 0.03 µg/100 cm3. The proposed method is very simple and rapid, and has been applied to the determination of Ni in natural waters by AAS with a tungsten ribbon atomizer. © 1989, The Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry.
