Abstract

Zigzag zinc: The Na+ and K+ salts of the [Zn(C 5H5)3]- ion exhibit polymeric 1D and 2D structures, respectively. In contrast, the dizincate [Na(thf) 6][Zn2(C5H5)5] contains discrete [Zn2(C5H5)5]- ions that consist of two {Zn(C5H5)2} groups with η1(π)/η1(π) binding, bridged by a C5H5 ring η1(π)-coordinated to each zinc atom (see structure).
