Abstract

The study aimed to identify the factors that make the rural producer decide to produce soybeans. Qualitative research was carried out, where individual soy producers from a municipality in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, relevant in the Brazilian soy industry, were interviewed. After data collection, the interviews were transcribed, analyzed and interpreted. The results show that the factors that lead rural producers to produce soybeans are geared towards family farming, aversion and seeking to minimize risks, technological facilities available to the crop and the cooperative to maintain this crop. For future work, there is a need for a systemic and in-depth investigation of the object, which has shown promise in terms of decision-making and management issues in the context of agribusiness.
