Abstract

Certain conceptual pitfalls for the unwary student first meeting Bernoulli's principle are considered. An alternate derivation is presented, based on a kinetic theory picture of a gas, assuming that a moderate wind causes no appreciable increase of gas temperature. The advantages and disadvantages of this alternate derivation are discussed.
