Abstract

In the meantime, the angle brackets - signature of the age of XML - also embrace the automation technology with its many different fields. Beside pure technological properties, »political« conditions play a role not to be missed and thus decide on weal or woe in the automation-technology market. This contribution examines both basic technologies and application fields from »XML's box« not only from a technological, but also from a non-technical perspective.
