Wildlife-Habitat Relationships in Oregon and Washington

Abstract

This is a massive compilation that greatly expands on the coverage and regional themes introduced in the epochal Wildlife Habitat Relationships in Managed Forests: the Blue Mountains of Oregon and Washington (1979. J.W. Thomas, tech. coord., Pacific Northwest Forest and Range Experiment Station, USDA Forest Service, Portland, OR), Management of Wildlife and Fish Habitats in Forests of Western Oregon and Washington (1985. E.R. Brown, tech. ed., Pacific North-west Region, USDA Forest Service, Portland, OR), and Atlas of Oregon Wildlife (1997. B. Csuti, et al., Oregon State University Press, Corvallis, OR). The much-litigated natural resources management plans in the Pacific Northwest have focused attention on a few species, largely in mixed conifer forests. But the region is very diverse, and the current work covers the entire range of vegetative communities, from eastern shrubsteppe and agriculture, interior forests, westside grasslands and chaparral, to riparian, coastal, and marine environments, in addition to the more familiar mixed conifer forests.
