Abstract

Reviews the book, Inflammatory and Autoimmune Disorders of the Nervous System in Children edited by Russell C. Dale and Angela Vincent (2010). The publication of this book is an important landmark in the establishment of pediatric neuroimmunology as a recognized subspecialty in pediatric neurology. Following a brief introduction to die basic science aspects of neuroimmunology, the rest of the book is clinically oriented. As suggested in the introduction, the chapters can be roughly divided into those focused on central nervous system demyelinating disorders, autoimmune mediated movement disorders, autoimmune mediated epilepsies, autoimmune peripheral nervous system disorders, disorders involving innate immunity, rheumatological disorders, and the secondary contribution of autoimmunity to other pediatric neurology disorders. Although the book will appeal to pediatricians and adult neurologists, the main readership is likely to be practizing pediatric neurologists. Thus, the book is the first publication to provide comprehensive coverage of all of the important pediatric neuroimmunological disorders under one cover.
