Abstract

FAMACHA© Haemonchosis control in goats. Parasitism is a problem that considerably reduces the income in all goat operations. The traditional methodology of control is based on the application of veterinary products. Due to their excessive use, the industry suffers the resistance that the parasites have developed. Due to that situation FAMACHA© method appears within the context of an integrated program. It relates the coloration of the eye membranes to the anemic state caused by the parasite Haemonchus contortus. This method allows to de-worm selectively the most affected animals and to make a selection of resistant individuals to this pathology reducing the pressure exerted on commercial products currently available.
