Abstract
Ransomware attacks have emerged as one of the most significant cybersecurity threats facing organizations and individuals in the digital age. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of current trends in ransomware attacks, examining the evolution of tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) employed by threat actors. Through a systematic review of recent literature, analysis of notable ransomware campaigns, and insights from cybersecurity experts, we identify key trends including the rise of Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) models, the adoption of double extortion techniques, and the increasing targeting of critical infrastructure. The paper also explores current detection, prevention, and mitigation strategies, evaluating their effectiveness against evolving ransomware threats. Looking ahead, we present evidence-based predictions for future ransomware trends, considering the potential impact of emerging technologies and shifting geopolitical landscapes. Our findings underscore the need for continued innovation in ransomware defense, enhanced international cooperation, and a proactive approach to cybersecurity that anticipates and prepares for future ransomware threats.
