Abstract

Architecture and urbanism have a common history that goes beyond their own boundaries. Since both of them are related to the city,it is necessary to assume their political character and their responsibility for the historical disappearing of the city. In this article we propose the following hypothesis: architecture as an institution has abandoned the principle of being principal of the city to become its executioner since the beginning of urbanism. In order to test this hypothesis we will offer a brief historical overview of architecture and finish analyzing the figure of Rem Koolhaas, whose work is at the center of the dispute between the death and the defense of the city.
