Abstract

In this paper the performances of a number of two-dimensional (2D) models for overland flow simulations have been compared; in particular they are based on the shallow water approach according to a fully dynamic, diffusive and kinematic wave modelling. The systems have been numerically solved by using both the MacCormack second order central scheme and HLL first order upwind scheme. The numerical results highlighted that the differences among the simulations are not very important when the simulations refer to commonly used ideal literature tests in which the topography is quite simplified while significant differences have been observed when the topography is more similar to the real situations. © 2009 WIT Press.
