Abstract

In the paper industry the terms 'titanium' and 'titanium pigments' are used to describe the commercially available grades of titanium dioxide pigments. Titanium dioxide pigments are finely divided white powders which are chemically inert or unreactive in contact with all of the commonly used constituents of paper systems. In their finely divided form, these pigments are very intensely white and possess the highest refractive index of any pigment used in paper. With these characteristics, even at low concentration levels, titanium dioxide pigments contribute in a major way to the optical performance brightness and opacity of the paper product.
