SWOT analysis of the new capital city based on the integrated coastal zone management approach

Abstract

Coastal area as the buffered to the new capital city are including Samboja, Penajam Paser Utara and Muara Jawa. The criteria address the needs of coastal area which are stakeholder, expertise, resources, facility and regulation. These criteria are also known as the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) indicators helped to mapping the condition of the area. Hence, the criteria need to be converting into SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat) questionnaire. Over 100 respondents participated in the survey which are coming from local government, fishermen, women community, agricultural community as well as tourism community. The coastal area in the new capital city has local resource potential that supports the main area related to fisheries, tourism and agriculture. However, there is still need to strengthening the coastal area alongside the development of the new capital city itself. Hence, the SWOT analysis provides the ideal condition for both internal and external perspectives. It also suggests the strategy that help the stakeholder on the developing the area based on their condition. As it indicates from the SWOT analysis that the coastal area should consider the implementation of progressive strategy to improve its readiness towards the development of new capital city. It means that the coastal area requires to use the strength components in order to mobilize the opportunities.
