Abstract

There is a strong influence on corporal aspects in the construction of race and gender characteristics. The kinky hair is considered a symbol of black identity and resistance, considering the existence of a white hegemony’s that disqualifies African hair. This article aims to analyze how corporal aspects attributed to black women is perceived having as main focus the kinky hair of black women in the organizational environment. Guided by a qualitative research study we used data collection technique through semi-structured interviews. After recording and transcribing the interviews, data was treated by content analysis focus thematic category and these categories were found: a) Blackness, hair and family; b) Through the hairs: racism in every day of black women; c) Beyond hairs: the hypersexualizing of black women and sexual harassment. The results point to a racism and sexism experienced by black women goes beyond the strands of hair.
