Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) are disease-causing agents throughout the world, which lead to serious damage and risks to human and animal health. This is due to the great capacity that this microorganism has in the acquisition of genes that codify the production of biofilms, toxins, and especially antimicrobial resistance. Thus, it is very important to do research with the intention of finding alternative methods to combat this pathogen. Currently, there are numerous researches to find and/or develop alternative methods to the use of antimicrobials to combat S. aureus, and a large number of multiresistant strains are reported by the scientific community. Given the great relevance of a subject involving public health, this work aims to emphasize the main lines of research currently used to combat S. aureus. The lines of research reported will be: bacteriophage therapy; ozone therapy; homeopathy; activity of essential oils and vegetable extract.
