State of Knowledge of Weeds in Coffee Cultivation in the Central Jungle of Peru

Abstract

This study was carried out in Chanchamayo, a province belonging to the Junín Region, in the central jungle of Peru with the objective of analyze the knowledge of weeds from professionals involve in the coffee cultivation. For this purpose, and was made face-to-face to professionals in coffee crop. Professionals were from the various departments of the Ministry of Agriculture (55%), followed by professionals working in agrochemical companies (18%), independent professionals (18%) and members of Agricultural Coffee Cooperatives (9%). It was concluded that professionals know the importance of weeds in coffee cultivation, but their knowledge is very general, so they consider it is necessary to implement training programs on weed identification and control methods. The majority of them consider that exist conditions in the area for research on weeds in coffee cultivation and suggest doing so on topics such as their effect on yield and quality, their role as hosts for pests and diseases, and control methods.
