Abstract
Case report: A 16 year old adolescent girl admitted on 3rd June 2010. She had typical complaints of mass per abdomen with irregular menstruation since 5 months. On general examination: Patient was normal and other system was also normal. Per abdomen examination: Mass of 28 weeks gravid uterus size, firm to hard in consistency was noted. On P/R examination: The mass continuous with the uterus was felt and occupying the POD. Rectal mucosa was free. All routine investigations were normal. Ca-125 was 424.6 U/ml. Scan showed an echogenic mass seen arising from the fundus and posterior wall. CT scan showed right solid malignant ovarian tumor. Upon laparotomy an ovarian tumor on left side with features suggestive of malignancy with ascites, and normal uterus, right ovary was noted. Left salphingo-oophorectomy was done. Surprisingly, the HPE report came as benign sclerosing stromal tumor which looks like malignant tumor but behaves like a benign tumor. Now the patient is on follow-up for regression of menstrual symptoms. This case has been presented in view of its clinical features suggestive of malignant tumor, whereas it behaves like a benign tumor both clinically and histologically.
