Abstract

From the ascent of the Bourbons to the Spanish throne, a policy of state control of the Church was implanted, whose main landmarks of victory were to found in the signature of the Concordat of 1753 and the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767. With this background, the ecclesiastical career changed its characters in remarkable form, pivoting around the royal grace, which became the key element of integration or political exclusion of the secular clergy. Within this frame, this paper analyzes the political elements that influenced the ecclesiastical career during the reign of Charles III of Spain.
