Abstract

Cysteine synthase A encoded by cysK catalyzes the synthesis of cysteine from O-acetylserine. Expression of cysK in Escherichia coli is under the control of CysB, a LysR family transcription factor. Herein we showed that the expression of cysK is regulated by several genetic and environmental factors in addition to CysB: two genetic factors, OmpR and CysE, and lithium. Based on the findings, we constructed the high-level expression system of cysK. © 2011 Federation of European Microbiological Societies.
