Abstract

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) has many benefits for the health. It is used as antibacterial and antifungal traditionally, so that it is necessary to be formulated. Gel was selected for the formulation of garlic because it was not sticky, stable and had good aesthetics. The gel of garlic extract requires Na-CMC and carbopol to maintain the gel stability. The research aimed to This study aimed to obtain of Na-CMC and carbopol as a gelling agent that has the physical stability in accordance with the stipulated requirements. Garlic was extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol. There were four formulas; Formula 1 (100%: 0%), Formula 2 (50%: 50%), Formula 3 (0%:100%) and Formula 4 without extract (50%:50%). Then, It was tested the physical properties; organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, adhesivity, scattering and viscosity. The results of stability tests show the base gel with a with ratio 100% Na-CMC: 0% carbopol has a good standard for at pH 7, adhesivity 7 seconds; scattering 6.025 cm 2 ; vicosity 14400 mPa.s.
