Abstract

Counts showed that some 12 % of the Dunlin wintering in the British Isles do so in the three harbours, Portsmouth, Langstone and Chichester. Ringing and biometric data from these three harbours have been used to show that these birds originate from northern Scandinavia arctic Russia and then moult in the southern North Sea area in autumn. Autumn and spring passage birds at Langstone originate from NW Britain and Iceland, moult at Langstone in autumn and then move to winter elsewhere. © 1977 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
