Taking as our starting point the axis marked by highway 15-CH, between Iquique (Chile) and Oruro (western Bolivia), based on various basically ethnographic materials, the present text attempts to take a critical view of migration understood as having prefixed origin and destination spaces; and of the idea of permanent settlement at the destination as the a priori object of the displacements which occur. We consider the migration profiles and itineraries which currently configure these frontier spaces, analyzing both the composition of their networks of relations and the cultural and economic flows which make up a transnational field in the area.
