Abstract

Purpose: We present a clinical case of breast metaplasic carcinoma, making a review and discussion of the literature. Material and methods: We present a 79 year old woman with 0 spindle cell carcinoma of the inferior-internal quadrant of the left breast, in which a conservative treatment was performed, consisting of quadrantectomy and postsurgical radiotherapy. We describe the surgical pathology findings. Conclusions: Metaplasic carcinoma of the breast is more frequent in women older thn 55 years, presenting as a large mass (5 cm) with a fast growth. The lymph nodes are generally free of disease. The hormone receptors are usually negative. Regarding the treatment, it is the same as for the other carcinomas included as high risk group for complementary treatment. The prognosis seems to be worse than for conventional breast carcinoma.
