Abstract

Status asthmaticus is one of the urgent states. These patients should be treated at the intensive care units where the optimum control and treatment is assured. At the intensive care unit of the institute for diseases of the chest and tuberculosis at Golnik during the years 1975 and 1976 20 patients with severe asthma were treated. The mean value of the arterial pO2 was 49,8 mm Hg, pCO2 46,8 mm Hg and pH 7,38, PCO2 after the application of O2 was not significantly increased. For the monitoring of vitaly arterial pO2 was 49,8 mm Hg, pCO2 46,8 mm Hg and used and the ratio VD/VT was measured. The corticosteroid treatment was administered by FEV response curve. Our observations in the treatment of status asthmaticus are in accordance with the data from the foreign literature.
