Abstract
This study explores the transformative impact of digitalization on microfinance services in Uzbekistan, a rapidly evolving sector in the context of technological advances. The introduction sets the stage by highlighting the growing importance of microfinance in Uzbekistan's economy and the potential role of digital technologies in enhancing these services. We delve into the specific ways digitalization is reshaping microfinance, from customer outreach to loan processing and management. In the methods section, we outline our approach to examining this impact, which includes a mixed-methods research design. Quantitative data was gathered through a survey of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Uzbekistan, assessing the extent and nature of digital adoption. Qualitative insights were obtained through interviews with key stakeholders, including MFI managers, clients, and technology providers, to gain a deeper understanding of the implications of digitalization. The results reveal a significant shift towards digital operations among MFIs, driven by the need for efficiency, better risk management, and improved customer experience. We observed a notable increase in the use of digital platforms for loan disbursement, monitoring, and collection. Additionally, digitalization has enabled MFIs to reach underserved populations, particularly in rural areas, thereby expanding their impact. In the discussion, we analyze these findings in the context of Uzbekistan's unique economic and regulatory landscape. We highlight the challenges and opportunities presented by digitalization, such as the need for robust cybersecurity measures and the potential for innovative financial products. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of supportive policy frameworks and continued investment in digital infrastructure to fully realize the benefits of digitalization in the microfinance sector of Uzbekistan.
