Abstract
Generalized convulsive status epilepticus is a common pediatric emergency. Its morbidity and mortality has improved with optimal seizure management. The prognosis of status epilepticus reflects the severity of underlying neurologic disease that precipitated the seizures. In this article we review the etiology, morbidity and mortality, and briefly discuss the pathogenesis of status epilepticus. Guidelines for an organized approach to the initial stabilization and management of the child with status epilepticus are reviewed.
