Abstract

Chapman's function is derived for an atmosphere with linear temperature decrease or increase (inversion) for larger zenith distances of the rays, as well as for grazing incidence. For the temperature gradient approaching to zero the proper limits are derived and the results brought to the form of the original Chapman function, derived for an isothermal atmosphere.
