Abstract

The kinetics of the reactions of acetic anhydride-excess water has been studied at higher temperatures up to 366K under adiabatic conditions in a thermos-flask fitted with a negative coefficient thermistor and kinetic data report- ed in this work. The same techniques were applied for the kinetic studies of excess acetic anhydride-water reactions at higher temperature up to 368 K. The reaction kinetics of excess acetic anhydride-water reactions which has not been determined previously was modeled using the same adiabatic analysis and the average activation energy, heat of reaction, pre-exponential factor and the order of reaction with respect to water has been determined. The studies have shown that the two processes appear to be completely different and might proceed through different reaction mechanisms pathways for the production of acetic acid.
