Abstract

It is reasonable to conclude that Jesus' teaching and activity involved eschatology. The social role of Jesus was complex. He was understood as a "wise man/' a "doer of surprising works," messianic pretender, and prophet. The most adequate category, in terms of historical description, seems to be "popular prophet."
