Abstract
CLOVIS PEPPE and DENNIS G. TUCK. Can. J. Chem. 62, 2798 (1984) Solutions of indium(1) halides (InX; X = Cl, Br, I) in toluene/pyridine or dichloromethane/pyridine are useful reaction media for studying the insertion of InX into various homonuclear R,,M-MR,, systems (M = 0 , S, Se, Co); the products are generally of the type (R,,M)21nX, obtained as the bis-pyridine adducts. Reaction does not occur under these conditions for M = Sn, Pb, N, P, Te, Mn, Fe. The mechanism of such insertion processes is discussed; the donor and acceptor properties of both In' and M are important. The InX/benzoyl peroxide system gives rise to a series of products which suggest rearrangement reactions in solution following insertion of indium into the 0-0 bond.
