Abstract

The original version of the article unfortunately contains an error of fact. Page 37, paragraph 2 includes a reference to “the first demonstration [of carbon capture and storage (CCS)] for enhanced oil recovery in the Norwegian Sleipner field”. This is erroneous as the Sleipner CCS project was not for enhanced oil recovery. The full corrected sentence should read: “The International Energy Agency’s programme on CCS research did not begin until 1991 and the first demonstration, in the Norwegian Sleipner field, was not operational until 1996.” This does not affect the analysis or conclusions of the paper.
