Nowy Jedwabny Szlak a relacje polsko-chińskie

Abstract

The beginning of the 1990s was a time of stagnation in Sino-Polish relations, characterized by the lack of interest in pursuing mutual cooperation. As time passed, the improvement of relations and the willingness to establish cooperation between Poland and China have become clear. Since the year 2012 the Chinese strategy of world expansion has contributed to maintaining correct interstate relations between China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland. The Belt and Road Initiaitve (BRI) presented in 2013, which name and assumptions are a direct reference to the former trade route connecting China with Europe and the Middle East, is an opportunity for Poland to intensify trade with China. The network of connections, proposed as a necessary part of the BRI, considers Poland as a key country for the creation of the shortest land connection between China and Western Europe. The convenient location of Poland predestines it to be an active participant in the initiative and a transhipment hub for the BRI. This paper is an attempt to answer questions about the opportunities and threats resulting from Poland's participation in the BRI and assess its further development prospects.
