The dispersal and migration of the gannet sula bassana from norwegian breeding colonies

Abstract

This study is based on the recoveries of 72 Gannets ringed in the northernmost colonies in the world. Norwegian Gannets have the same dispersal and migration patterns as their British counterparts (Thomson 1974, Nelson 1978b, Veron 1988). During their first autumn, they move south into the North Sea, and on to waters off northwest Africa. Young birds probably remain in southern waters during their second summer. Older birds tend to move so far south. © 1988 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
