Abstract
Introduction: In many parts of the world, women have historically been marginalized in many areas, such as education, work, politics and a host of other aspects. This fact has triggered cultural barriers and brakes that have prevented their economic and social independence, which has shortened their opportunities and increased the gender gap. Methodology: A field study was carried out with a sample of 100 female academics who, at the time of data collection, were working as professors in public or private Peruvian universities in the departments of Tacna, Moquegua, Arequipa, Lima and Trujillo. Results: The results show that gender equality and employability have a significant influence on the female empowerment of female academics in Peruvian universities, with a significance level of less than 0.05. Discussion: The historical inequalities that women have faced continue to have intergenerational impacts that reach current children. However, female empowerment does not only favor women, it enriches society as a whole. Conclusions: The results reflect the consensus of academics regarding gender inequality in labor issues.
