Abstract
A comparison of two counties, one on the outskirts of Bordeaux and the other on the fringes of Paris, reveals the ethnic division of public spaces and the sociopolitical hierarchies of the inhabitants in relation to their origins in a two-fold dynamic. On the one hand, minority groups are encouraged to appropriate depoliticized resources and, on the other hand, within institutionalized spaces majority groups discuss problems in constant relation to « other ethnicities ».
