Abstract
Discusses basic problems in the language development of deaf–blind children, with reference to international literature. Factors in the developmental retardation of these children are considered: lack of all kinds of external information, lack of language experience, and retardation of intellectual development and emotional development. The importance of tactile exploratory behavior, use of gestures, and development of the imaginative ability is emphasized.
