Abstract

The low achievement of basic competencies in learning geography in middle school is the problem today, it happens because many students who feel saturated in learning geography. Instructional media are tools used in learning activities. teaching so that the process of delivering the material can be more interesting. The use of the media can help teachers to teaching and learning activities so that students tend to be monotonous saturated in receiving the material presented. Learning media can provide a different atmosphere in the process of delivering the material and may affect the achievement of basic competencies, one of which is the graphical grafis.Media media is media that is concrete so it is easily understood by learners, these media can be used to accompany the lecture method is often used, so penelititan was conducted to determine the effect of graphic media in teaching geography to the achievement of basic competencies. The method used in this study is comparative. The population in this study were students of class VIII Pasundan 3 Bandung junior academic year 2008/2009. Sampling was conducted in two classes, where class is sampled as a group class VIII A class of VIII C Chart and Map as a group. In the Chart group to use the media on the chart and map use the media map. Data collection techniques using tests to measure students’ basic competence. Grains used in penelititan about this is multiple choice questions. Data analysis using descriptive statistics to describe the research data, and then to test the research hypotheses using inferential statistics with t-test. The results showed that there were differences in achievement between groups of students basic competencies Chart and Map group on the Continent and Ocean material, with (tHitung = 2.41> TTable = 1.998), whereby achievement of basic competencies of students in the group chart higher than the group maps. There are differences in the achievement of basic competencies significantly between before and after the media group that uses Trend chart, with (tHitung = 15.02> TTable = 1.998). There are differences in the achievement of basic competencies significantly between before and after the group of maps that use the media map, with (tHitung = 12.38> TTable = 1.998). Differences between the groups increased
