Abstract

The correlation between the bulk modulus B and the atomic properties of binary intermetallics (element molar volume and element valence electron density) is studied using literature data of 240 binary intermetallic compounds and alloys. It is found that the bulk modulus of binary systems may be predicted (with an average error limit of ±11%) by B = nws2V, where nws and V are estimates from elemental valence electron density and molar volume, respectively.
