Abstract

A rapid and sensitive protocol using Chelex 100 resin for DNA extraction and the polymerase chain reaction for detection of Babesia microti Franca within its vector Ixodes scapularis Say is described. The level of detection of this protocol was determined to be the approximate equivalent of one parasite. © 2005 Entomological Society of America.
