Glomus diaphanum: a new species in the Endogonaceae common in West Virginia

Abstract

A new species of vesicular-arbusular mycorrhizal fungi, Glomus diaphanum, is described which forms abundant soil-borne as well as intraradical hyaline spores characterized by a laminate outer wall and a membranous inner wall. it is more commun encountered in coal surfaces minesoils in West Virginia, but also can be found in lesser numbers in agricultural soils. It forms mycorrhizal associations with a wide range of plant species in the fiel and in pot cultures.
