Abstract
At the World Hydro Forum, members of the industry tried to solve the ethical problems which dams are facing worldwide. These problems rose because of the ever changing perceptions about dams. Large dam construction was previously viewed as an article of faith in delivering development. Because of the changing perceptions, the underpinning of this faith is shaken. Social and environmental issues have taken precedence in considerations about the role of dams in worldwide development.
