Abstract

In any environment, wayfinding is akindof spatial problem that peopleencounter almost daily. Although it has been well documented that environmental cues significantly facilitate wayfinding, there has been little work done to examine the effectiveness of the facilitation. In particular, wayfinding manageability is considered in this paper, and, to this end, a computational approach to its evaluation is proposed. This is illustrated through simulation, employing a quantifiable measure for wayfinding facilitation. The measure is statistically determined from experimental data on certain wayfinding variables.
