The role of Germany in foreign languages teaching and learning fields has been tremendously significant since the19 th century. We owe the creation of new alternative methods known nowadays to important investigators, linguists and German professionals of the didactics.This article deals with the importance of Germany in the field of didactics of languages, describing fundamentally the methods and methodological approaches used in this country – like the traditional method known as “grammar and translation”, “the direct method”, the “audiolingual/audiovisual”, or the “communicative” one, up to the “alternative” methods.
