Abstract

Word boxes is a strategy which helps students connect the phonological properties of words to their orthographic features (i.e., spelling patterns) by having them touch boxes or move counters or letters into boxes corresponding to individual sounds or word parts. A word boxes intervention to improve word reading fluency and accuracy will be described for a first-grade student with an intellectual disability.
