Abstract

Each region has its own regional language, although Indonesian is the national language, the regional language still plays an important role in communication between residents in the area. Each region in Indonesia has its own regional language such as Batak language, Minang language, Betawi language, Sundanese language, Javanese language, Ambonese language and others, when visiting an area miscommunication often occurs due to errors in understanding the meaning of the words spoken say by local residents. For this reason, this study aims to design an android-based application that can be used as a translator (dictionary) for Indonesian to Minang language or vice versa. The method used in this research is applied research which is divided into three steps, namely design, trial and implementation, while the equivalent words used are sourced from Minang language literature. The results of the study were seen at the time of implementation, although until now only 500 words and their equivalents have been entered, but this system has input for words that have no equivalent so that it is easy to develop.
